Nilotinib blocks the abnormal BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase produced by the Philadelphia chromosome. This protein continuously signals leukaemia cells to grow and survive. Blocking the signal reduces abnormal blood-cell production and helps control chronic myeloid leukaemia.
